In this full–stack project, we’ll build a production-style realtime chat app with notifications from scratch using Next.js, Clerk, Socket.io, Docker and Postgres.

What we’ll build
🧵 Threads & replies – create and browse forum-style threads with metadata
👤 Clerk auth (frontend + backend) – sign in, sign up, protected pages, and secure API routes
💬 Realtime direct messages – online status, typing indicators, live message stream with Socket.io
🔔 Realtime notifications – get notified instantly when someone interacts with your content
🖼 Image upload with Cloudinary – attach images in chat and threads with hosted URLs
🗄 Postgres database in Docker – local development database running in a container
🌐 Next.js App Router UI – modern layout, dark theme, and responsive design
⚡ Socket.io integration – realtime events for chat, presence, and notifications
🧱 Clean architecture – clear separation between frontend, API layer, and realtime server
