NUMBER 1:
The Amur tiger is a tiger commonly found in Asia, along with most other tiger species. It miraculously managed to narrowly avoid extinction, especially in a time when most of the other tiger breeds were facing their similar demise. They are currently considered endangered, and in 2015, their numbers were around 500.
NUMBER 2:
The World Wildlife Foundation and its partners have been a cardinal driver for the conservation of the grey whale. They have even gotten Russia to open up its own conservation system for the whales.
NUMBER 3:
Dedicated conservationists, researchers, and concerned individuals were able to combine their efforts, and the southern white rhinos were protected to the point where the total population estimate was 11,600 in 2001. Now they are the most abundant rhino in the world.
NUMBER 4:
Back in 1989, the African elephant was on the critically endangered list. Over the years, high-intensity conservation parties managed to protect the elephants and are now on the road to recovering.
NUMBER 5:
The Kenyan black rhino is also in the critically endangered category, but luckily, the World Wildlife Foundation has been able to provide funding and support to the cause of preserving these creatures, as their numbers have been consistently dwindling over the years.
NUMBER 6:
If it were not for the involvement of a handful of people, the mountain gorilla would be long gone. The IGCP, or International Gorilla Conservation Program, was set up in hopes to spread awareness of these creatures, and over 15 year of service, they have managed to set up protected areas for these gorillas to thrive. Currently, there are around 700 of these creatures alive, and the number is slowly growing.
NUMBER 7:
The Saiga is protected on a national level, but there still needs to be much more done about it, since they are still being hunted. People hunt these creatures for their meat and horns, so there has been total prohibition of meat and horn trading of the animals. Along with that, there are several protected areas, but not enough.
NUMBER 8:
The rhino is a conservation success story. Strict protection measures meant that its population increased from 600 in 1975 to 2,400 in 2002.
NUMBER 9:
Lion Tamarins are very few in this world, with only around 800 left in the wild. The only reason that number is as high as it is, is because we have already done many relocation programs to help them. They're not hunted often, but their main enemy is deforestation, so people in Brazil have established private reserves for them
NUMBER 10:
The Takhi is a type of horse that, back in 1900, only exited with 12 animals. All of the roughly 700 takhi left stemmed from those 12 in 1900. There are many efforts out there trying to preserve these creatures. They are legally considered to be "Endangered", but are on the road to recovery.
