How do I check the actual size? USB flash drives, microSD/SD cards – especially Chinese ones, which like to "fake" their sizes by 2-4 times.
How to check the functionality of a USB flash drive or microSD/SD card.
To solve such problems, DISKPART alone (which is used for "simple" flash drive recovery - • Как восстановить "сдохшую" microSD, SD или... ) is not enough. For example, a CDFS partition on a flash drive is controlled by the flash drive's controller, which cannot be accessed with standard formatting/partitioning utilities. Therefore, to delete a CDFS partition from a flash drive, you need a special utility, such as Alcor QCTool.
This utility also allows you to disable/enable read-only mode for a USB flash drive at the controller level.
Before using Alcor QCTool, we recommend disconnecting other USB devices (to avoid confusion) and carefully reading the instructions to avoid installing unnecessary data on the flash drive.
Another utility discussed in this video, RMprepUSB, http://www.rmprepusb.com/, allows you to easily format flash drives, disable write-only mode if it's set at the partition level (this can also be done using DISKPART), check the actual working size of USB flash drives, microSD, and SSDs, and test their surface for functionality.
Furthermore, RMprepUSB offers a host of formatting options that allow you to easily manipulate the bootloader and boot files on the flash drive, for example, quickly create custom flash drives from a BartPE CD, etc.
And, of course, be careful when using RMprepUSB - for example, when performing a full disk scan (not just free space) - it completely wipes the flash drive ;) But it does warn you about this ;)
