A detailed tour of the outdoor toilet and shower we built from scratch at our country house. We show how our brick outdoor bathroom has worked in real use for about eight years and explain the main construction and utility solutions.
BBQ complex build: • БАРБЕКЮ КОМПЛЕКС С ПОГРЕБОМ СВОИМИ РУКАМИ ...
Before construction, we chose a convenient place for the outdoor toilet and shower between the house, garden and vegetable beds. We wanted a durable structure for many years, so we built it from brick and planned the layout in advance.
The cesspit is about 3.20 × 1.40 m and roughly 2 m deep, lined with brick and divided by a brick partition. The top is covered with a reinforced concrete slab. The toilet and shower are under one slate roof. A 300-litre water tank sits on a welded steel frame: the sun heats the water in summer, and a 1.5 kW electric heating element can be used in cooler weather. Water comes from the well; the building also has permanent electricity, lighting and outlets.
The outdoor shower includes a changing area, washbasin, shower tray, glass blocks for daylight, ventilation, insulation, floor drainage and a pressure booster pump. The walls are insulated with foam and finished with white PVC panels. The toilet has a flushing toilet bowl, water supply, daylight through glass blocks and a separate ventilation pipe from the cesspit to help prevent odours.
Outside we added paving, paths, gutters, a motion-sensor light, a polycarbonate canopy and grape trellises.
