"Looking Back, Looking Ahead"
Sunday, December 29, 2024, 10:50 am
Mari Magaloni Ramos and Carmen Barsody, Guest Preachers
The Sankofa, a mythical bird symbol with its head turned back, represents the importance of learning from the past to inform and guide our present and future. Sankofa is a Twi word from Ghana that means "to retrieve" or "to go back and get it.". The Sankofa symbol represents the idea that one's past is an important part of one's future and that one should learn from the past to inform the future.
The transition from one calendar year to the next offers us an opportunity to do just that: to reflect on what this past year has held for us and to set our intentions so we, individually and as a community, may keep on moving forward with intention grounded in commitment. We will take time to reflect on the questions, “What am I most grateful for, and what am I least grateful for?” and engage in a ritual of letting out the old year and welcoming in the new.
