ARCHITECT or ARTIST? Why is architecture art?
But not every construction is ARCHITECTURE
Just as you can't call every set of sounds MUSIC, or every set of words POETRY, you can't call every set of materials arranged together, or rather, every CONSTRUCTION, ARCHITECTURE.
There must be certain characteristics that make ARCHITECTURE similar to other ARTS such as MUSIC, PAINTING, SCULPTURE, etc.
That's why today I'm bringing you:
• 7 CHARACTERISTICS that anything aspiring to be called ART must possess, and which are, of course, applicable to the WORKS we architects create.
These characteristics will allow us to evaluate whether a work is JUST A WORK OF CONSTRUCTION or if we can categorize it as A WORK OF ARCHITECTURE; OR, IN OTHER WORDS, A WORK OF ART.
These characteristics are:
1. ORDER OVER CHANCE
2. QUALITY INSTEAD OF NOVELTY
3. QUALITY, NOT CONCEPT
4. HIGH MASTERY OF TECHNIQUE
5. THE UNIVERSAL OR THE PARTICULAR
6. THE ERA VS. THE AUTHOR
7. FORM AS A CONDITION OF ART
