Don't try to nail down Yoshi Flower's sound. A year ago the LA-based singer told Billboard that there's no reason why he couldn't be "equal parts zen and ratchet." Meaning the tracks that earned him his early acclaim have plenty of stylistic breadth. "Movies," "Woke" and "Just on Drugs" are related, but sometimes it's hard to connect the dots. That's a good thing. Scope is key to Flower's approach. He's said that "Movies" is an acoustic song with a "super gangster hook." To herald the arrival of his new full-length, 'PEER PLEASURE,"' we had him in to knock out versions of "Dirty Water" and "validation" in the Vevo studio. From the gentle strum of guitar strings to the trance-flecked beats he absorbed listening to his parents techno heroes in Detroit, he chooses his tools well.
