An overview of the major changes and revisions to the EA888 Gen 3 engine VW AUDI SKODA SEAT Engine which came as a 1.8 & 2.0 TFSi TSi saw improvements to design, reliability and power.

It is good to understand these changes so that we can plan an upgrade strategy and discern if the original problems and issues have been fixed or mitigated.

The EA888 Evo is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that was first introduced by Audi in 2007. It has since been used in a variety of Volkswagen Group vehicles, including the Audi A4, A5, A6, Q5, and TT, as well as the Volkswagen Golf R, Tiguan, and Passat.

There have been three major revisions to the EA888 Evo: NB: Years do vary a little for different applications and regions.

Revision A 1st Generation (2007-2009): This was the first generation of the engine, and it was used in a variety of Audi and Volkswagen models. It produced a maximum of 200 horsepower (149 kW) and 236 lb-ft (320 N·m) of torque.

Revision B Gen 2 (2010-2013): This revision saw a number of improvements, including a new cylinder head, direct injection, and a turbocharger with a variable-geometry turbine. It produced a maximum of 252 horsepower (188 kW) and 273 lb-ft (370 N·m) of torque.

Revision 3 EVO Gen 3 or C (2014-present): This is the latest revision of the engine, and it features a number of further improvements, including a new lighter engine block, revised pistons and connecting rods, and a new intake manifold. It produces typically upto 296 horsepower (221 kW) and 300 lb-ft (407 N·m) of torque.

NOTE: (There was also A GEN3b - for the lower power economy focused Budack cycle    • What's VW Audi's Budack Engine Cycle VS Ot...   )

The EA888 Evo is a very reliable and efficient engine, and it has been praised for its smooth power delivery and refinement. It is also a very popular choice for tuners, as it can be easily modified to produce more power.

Revision C EVO Gen 3 TSI TFSi (2014-present)

Revision C of the EA888 Evo engine is the latest and most advanced iteration of this popular powerplant. It was first introduced in 2014 and has been used in a wide variety of Audi, Volkswagen, and Skoda vehicles.

This revision features a number of significant improvements over its predecessors, including:

New lighter block: The new block is lighter and somewhat stiffer than the previous block, despite being thinner, and this improves both weight distribution and engine rigidity.

Revised pistons and connecting rods: The pistons and connecting rods have been redesigned to be lighter and stronger, which helps to reduce engine friction and improve fuel economy.

New intake manifold: The new intake manifold is designed to improve airflow into the engine, which helps to boost power and torque.

Revised turbocharger: The turbocharger has been revised to provide more boost pressure, which further increases power output.

Revised oil pump: The oil pump has been revised to provide improved lubrication, which helps to extend engine life.

Direct injection: Direct injection sprays fuel directly into the combustion chambers, which improves combustion efficiency and reduces emissions.

Variable valve timing: Variable valve timing allows the engine to optimize valve timing for different driving conditions, which further improves power, torque, and fuel economy.

As a result of these improvements, EA888 Gen 3 of the EA888 Evo engine is more powerful, more efficient, and more reliable than its predecessors. It is also cleaner-burning, thanks to the use of direct injection and variable valve timing.

Reduced fuel consumption: EA888 Gen 3 is up to 10% more fuel-efficient than the previous revision.

Lower emissions: EA888 Gen 3 is cleaner-burning than the previous revision, thanks to the use of direct injection and variable valve timing.

Increased reliability: EA888 Gen 3 is more reliable than the previous revision, thanks to the use of a new aluminum block, revised pistons and connecting rods, and a revised oil pump.

Overall, Revision C of the EA888 Evo engine is a significant improvement over its predecessors. It is more powerful, more efficient, and more reliable. It is also cleaner-burning, making it a more environmentally friendly option.
