Each Saturn V launch vehicle included five F-1 engines which burned a mixture of kerosene (RP-1) and liquid oxygen at a combined rate of 15 metric tons per second for the entirety of its two and a half minutes of operation.
The Rocketdyne developed engine pre-dated NASA itself, starting life as an Air Force project in 1955. Over the course of the Apollo program and Skylab mission, the F-1 engine represented a major success for the program with its consistent performance throughout.
