"Johnathan Borofsky's The hammering Man is a monumental moving sculpture owned by the city of Seattle and situated just outside SAM (Seattle Art Museum) on 1st avenue and University. It honors the men and women of the working classes in impressive style. Measuring 48 ft tall and weighing in at approximately 22,000 lb, he needs a long, powerful swing to bring down his hammer, which he manages at a clip of two and a half times per minute his massive size cause serious issues for the team that took on the tall task of installing him on September 28th 1991. On that unlucky day, lift straps supporting the sculpture snapped, causing it to fall roughly 1 ft."
