MQTT Q&A: Do all MQTT brokers support all features?
Do all MQTT brokers support all features? The support for MQTT is not always equal across the IoT cloud vendors, and not every broker is fully MQTT conformant.
Brokers that fully support all MQTT 3 and MQTT 5 features:
• Open-source brokers like Mosquitto
• Commercial brokers like HiveMQ (plus many additional features)
Many cloud platform providers do not support standard MQTT to 100%:
• for example AWS
• Microsoft Azure
Only open-source and commercial brokers use MQTT in a 100% ISO standard conformant way. Where proprietary cloud connectivity and a possible vendor lock-in are acceptable it can still be possible to use commercial cloud services. Open-source and commercial brokers like HiveMQ can be integrated in public cloud services to provide full MQTT compliance.
