Understanding the Universe
The meaning of life is essential for every rational being, for meaning indicates the direction of life and frees one from doubt. People are busy searching for the meaning of life, but searching for the meaning of life is a false path. One can approach a celestial body and see what a celestial body is, but one cannot approach the meaning of life and see what the meaning of life is. The meaning of life is an idea created by consciousness; the meaning of life does not exist as part of the real world; the meaning of life cannot be found, it can only be chosen. The ignorant search for the meaning of life, the intelligent person chooses the meaning of life; but this choice is imperfect, for man has only explored a tiny part of the universe. A rich choice is better than a meager choice; choosing the meaning of life is easier when one has explored the entire universe. Therefore, understanding the universe itself is the most important meaning for all rational beings; understanding the universe protects from dangers, adds well-being, and fills the heart with joy; understanding the universe provides answers to questions and brings peace. Regardless of other chosen meanings, understanding the Universe is the eternal and omnipresent meaning of life for every rational being. Anyone who has paused in doubt and is experiencing torment should direct themselves toward understanding the Universe; they will benefit others and experience joy.
