The HORRORS of Verdun (The Battle That Swallowed 700,000 Men)

The Battle of Verdun lasted 303 days. It consumed somewhere between 700,000 and 800,000 men. But the casualty count doesn't tell you what Verdun actually was. This isn't a video about generals and maps. It's about what it felt like to be there: the artillery that killed men without leaving a mark, the mud craters that swallowed soldiers alive while their squadmates listened from the rim, the phosgene gas that settled into the same craters men were using for cover, and the two concrete forts at the center of the fighting whose stories could not have been more different.
The French called it The Mincer. The Germans called it die Blutmühle, the Blood Mill. They were both right...
