The issue I want to address today, is something that is surely affecting hundreds of thousands of people who have either bought windows 10 on a new computer, or went thru the upgrade process or even had windows 10 running ok, and after a major update find that even with fast internet speed, their browsing experience has deteriorated. In the past one would even think it was a virus or trojan, however a vast majority of you are just experiencing fall out from what was supposed to be an improvement to DNS resolution in Windows 10.

SMHNR has changed from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10.

In Windows 10, you can’t turn it off via the registry. You have to use GPEDIT.MSC "Local Policies" to deactivate the feature, by default it is not configured.

Follow the steps below to do this:

Press keyboard keys WIN+R and type gpedit.msc, or run gpedit.msc from command line
Expand Comnputer Configuration
Expand Administrative templates
Expand Network
Click DNS-client
Double-click "Turn off smart multi-homed name resolution"
Check the box called "Enabled"
Click "Apply all" and then "OK"
