Something I came up myself a while ago. Copper can't be automated into its Oxidized form, but you can make a farm detecting it. So instead of having a field of Copper blocks placed with 4 blocks in between, you can make a detectable oxidizing farm which then will output the fully oxidized copper. These blocks can then be mined easily next to each other with the use of a flying machine.
I havent seen this mechanic yet and this can be made on a giant scale. Sorry in advance for my small redstone naming errors.
The one way this farm may 'break' or rather get stuck is whenever a Copperblock will phase into its next state in the 1 tick after its previous state. So for example if it goes from Exposed to Weathered in 1 tick and then immediatly in the next tick to Oxidized, it will then be quicker that the Observer block detecting it, but its a very small chance, esecpially on the normal random tickspeed of 3.
Hope you liked it and find it useful.
