This timelapse video shows the process of pixelling the "Close-Range Attack" animation of the Light Enemy, the light and agile enemy of the Forest Level of "The Legend of Tobimaru", our upcoming 2D side-scrolling action platformer.
We drafted the animation quickly with some random colours just to get the overall moves to look good. Then we added some in-between frames to make the animation a little smoother... Actually we did the wrong thing here, we should've just focused initially on getting the key frames absolutely right, and polishing them instead of jumping on and adding in-between frames before polishing the key frames. We spent a bulk of our time colouring and detailing all the frames one by one, so it's good to keep the frame count as low as possible so that we just twist and turn the polished key frames to make the necessary in-between frames. Well, next time!
The whole process took about 4 hours... but we actually spent an hour outside the video on drafting the animation, so it was actually 5 hours. Hope you'll find this video somewhat useful.
