DMAG4 (for windows 64 bit) is available at http://3dstereophoto.blogspot.com. It is basically a bilateral filter that can "densify" a sparse depth map into a dense depth map. It needs a reference 2d image, a so-called "edge image" to create a border between things that are at different depths, and a sparse depth map typically obtained by using grayscale brush strokes in Gimp to give depth clues. I was planning on putting annotations to explain what I am doing in the vid but youtube does not allow annotations anymore. Let me try to explain here ... First, I create the "edge image" (on a new layer) by tracing object boundaries using the Paths Tool. Make sure that when you make the strokes from the paths, antialiasing is off and the line width is 1 pixel. Once done, I save the "edge image" as "edge.png". Second, I create the sparse depth map (on a new layer) using the gradient tool to establish the background, the eraser to make room for the astronaut, and the pencil tool to paint depth clues using grayscale values. Make sure you select "hard edges" for the painting tools you use. I save the sparse depth map as "sparse.png". Note that you certainly don't need to use the gradient tool, you could just as easily do everything with the pencil tool scribbling depth clues here and there. DMAG4 is used to generate the dense depth map from the reference image, "edge image", and sparse depth map. Because an "edge image" is used, beta can be lowered way down, say to 10. After a little bit of time, I save the dense depth map as "dense.png". Finally, I show animated gifs obtained from the dense depth map using http://wigglemaker.ugocapeto.com and FSG11.
