I'm Samantha Clayton, fitness expert and former competitive sprinter. I'm working with Herbalife to help you achieve a healthy, active life.
Running up hill is the weight lifting of running so, if your running routine needs a boost, adding in some hills will build strength and allow you to think about your technique.
When you run up a hill you will naturally have a slight forward lean and you can't help but run on the balls of your feet which is the preferred foot position for speed!
Your arms will have to work harder to give you the extra momentum and the major bonus is that all of your posterior chain muscles such as your glutes, hamstrings and calves will be working hard.
I believe that adding in an occasional hill running session will improve your technique on the flat, improve your strength and, in turn, make you faster.
For those that love to hear about the extra calorie burn, hill running has got you covered, because you can burn more calories in less time!
And, because of the strength element your body will burn extra calories for a few hours after your workout for recovery.
