With an aim to recycle waste and turn it into something valuable, students of National Institute of Design (NID) in Ahmedabad are attempting to create products using scrapped currency notes. The project has been given to the institute by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and over 200-kg briquettes of demonetised notes has been sent to the institute. Moreover, the participants can also win cash prizes up to Rs. 1 lakh for the best creation. So far the compressed blocks have been used to make tabletops, lamp shades, and office accessories and various idols.
