KLYP is a reliable soft clipper that is really straightforward to use. It prominently features a big oscilloscope view, so you can easily see what effect it has on your sound. Drag the red line to adjust the threshold, and play with the softness to dial in exactly how hard or soft you want the clipping to be.
You can use up to 8x linear-phase oversampling to greatly reduce aliasing. And with Antiderivative Antialiasing turned on, you get even better results.
KLYP is available as a VST3 or CLAP plugin for macOS, Windows, and Linux. You can get it for free, or pay what you want if you’d like to. It’s also completely open-source and, unlike most audio plugins, it’s written in Rust - a performant, memory safe language.
