Lorenzo Morresi - Deep Down [Roots Underground Records]
London-based DJ, guitarist and music producer Lorenzo Morresi debuts on Roots Underground. This is the label's first release this year, and also the first under their refreshed brand identity and logo.
This EP is homogeneous and shines light on the solid analog production from Lorenzo, inspired by the magnificent naturalistic images taken by photographer Sebastiao Salgado in Genesis (2013).
First track is named "Gallery" and invites Tenderlonious (22a Records) on flute for the jazzy House ballad with an aetherial atmosphere and a nice bassline. Pure Summer vibe on this opener. The following track "Abantu" is built around tribal choirs samples brilliantly framing a jazz-funk arrangement.
"Emotional Crash Test Dummies" opens the B side with a distinctive disco sound perfectly suiting Lorenzo’s guitar style: a psychedelic touch and a firm grip on sweaty dancefloors. "Deep Down" closes the EP on hyperspace directions. Abstract hip hop, soul, jazz, funk, all wisely mixed by Lorenzo... A delight for the lovers of warm contemporary sounds of the west coast.
