Tech How To: How to Charge your iPhone Faster!
With an almost impossibly thin design, awesome display, and more processing power than NASA had when we landed on the moon, today’s iPhone is a technological wonder. The only not-so-out of this world feature of the iPhone for some is the battery life.
Sometimes you just can’t get through the day on a single charge, with such popular apps as Pokemon go, Youtube, Minecraft, Netflix, Tinder or Grindr these all wear down your iPhones battery fast.
So today I’m going to show you the fastest ways to charge you iPhone I’ve come across.
This first one I’ve come to learn isn’t so common, but it’s such a no brainer when you hear it. Put your iPhone in low power mode when charging in a hurry!
According to apple, low power mode reduces or affects features such as email fetch, hey Siri, background app refresh, automatic downloads and visual effects. All things that continue to drain your battery when you’re trying to charge that you can temporarily live without for the sake of a faster charge!
I always recommend this one first as I find it to be the most practical suggestion, you still have practical use of your device as all the apps you need still work, you can still get messages, check email and use your Mobile data!
There are two ways to turn on low power mode, first I’ll show you how I do it the easy way using 3D Touch, then I’ll show you how to do it normally for those who have an iPhone SE or iPhone 6 and older.
As an aside for a quick moment, I think 3D Touch is really underrated. It’s not a necessity, but once you find some 3D Touch shortcuts you use regularly, it’s really super convenient! Let me know in the comments below if you’d like a video on some of the best and most convenient 3D Touch shortcuts I’ve found so far.
So now back to low power mode, to turn on low power mode using 3DTouch, hard press the settings icon, press battery and then simply slide the low power mode switch on! And when you’re done fast charging you come back here to slide it off. Also note that if your battery level gets up to 80% in this mode your iPhone will automatically turn off low power mode for you! But you can always turn it back on to continue the fast charge!
And if you want to use low power mode without 3D Touch, press the settings icon. Then scroll down to battery and select it. From here you can slide the switch on or off as needed.
The second one isn’t for everyone, but it does help charge your iPhone faster if available. Charge your iPhone with an iPad charger! You can use the 10 or 12 watt adapter that came with your iPad to charge your iPhone faster. This works because it delivers more power than the standard 5 watt adapter but isn’t suppose to damage your iPhone, so it’s a real win if this option is available to you!! And if you want to charge even faster then you can turn on low power mode while charging with the iPad charger!! I do this a lot when I’m home for a short time between errands in the middle of the day and I find it works great!!
The last option I’ve heard I’m not really fond of because it’s not always practical, but it does work and there are times I use it, but not often. You can put your iPhone in airplane mode when charging, whether through an iPad or regular charger. This will charge your phone the fastest. But the down side is of course your phone is pretty much inoperable while it’s charging, as you can’t receive any messages, listen to music with your AirPods or use any mobile data. So I don’t find this the most practical, but there are times when you only have 10 to15 minutes to top up. So if you want to make the most of it, you can usually live without the use of your iPhone for that short time.
And just in case you don’t know how to use airplane mode, it’s really simple. Swipe up to open control centre and press the icon on the far left. Airplane mode turns off the wireless features on your iPhone so that you comply with airline regulations, it turns off the cellular, bluetooth and wifi transmitters. Like I said, not my favourite option, but there are times I still use it for a faster battery charge.
Those are the best ways you can charge your iPhone faster that I’ve come across. If there’s any tips or tricks I missed to charge your iPhone faster please share them in the comments below.
