It is no secret that social media has become harmful over the last few years, and sometimes it can seem like there's no way to fix the Internet.
But what if there was? What if YOU were the key to fixing it?
That's not really a question. You are. You're the solution.

Welcome back!
I want to start off by saying that I love social media. Oh look at that.
There is so much power and potential in the idea that every single person in the world has the ability to reach every other person with an internet connection.
With power like that, it's a good thing no one use it for selfish, vindictive destructive reasons.
Oh, right.
Look, this is a frustrating time to be a content creator online, especially on the main social media platforms. YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Twitch...All of them have had their fair share of drama and disaster very recently, and everyone is trying to figure out what to do.
Unfortunately, the answer lately has seemed to be just to ride the wave of ridiculousness rather than find a different beach.
There was a time when platforms like YouTube were a place for real people to go and have real experiences, and have fun with friends, and get important conversations started, and it seems like it's turned into.... This. We're supposed to just accept that this is YouTube now?
I REFUSE TO LET THAT HAPPEN!
See, it's not really up to us what YouTube becomes. It's up to you. The audience. The communities of all of the creators. You are the You of YouTube. You decide what influences you're going to give power to, and you get to do it in a way that is really easy, and really powerful. You use your eyeballs.
Hmm, that kinda makes you sound like you have mutant laser eyes or something-that's not what I'm trying to say.
Ok, I want you to think of YouTube in a different way for just a few minutes. Stay with me here, this is gonna be weird. I want you to think of this platform like an eternal election. Just like the campaign trail but on a loop, and everyone with a camera and the courage to hit "upload" is in the running. How do you choose the leaders?
Here on YouTube, your views are your vote. You decide with every video that you watch that you want more of that content from that creator, or people like that creator. And more than that, when you engage with a video beyond just watching it - so like leaving a comment, or sharing it - you're giving that same video a little extra boost. So if you HATE something, leaving a hate comment, or sharing it so other people can be offended by it actually pushes it to the front of the race, and makes it linger longer. It makes other creators think that's how they should act in order to be seen.
Let me word that in another way to make this really clear. You can decide through your simple basic hatred that you want to continue to be hateful, and offended by everything. Or you can choose to vote for the content that you would like for the rest of the world to see. Content that has the ability to start encouraging the entirety of internet-using humans to fix this planet, and keep life growing and developing on this lucky little rock that's floating through space in it's blip in time.
We are in the age of information. We've never had access to this much knowledge and humanity, and instead we choose to act stupid, and dehumanize ourselves, becoming a shell of what we hoped our future selves would be like, and we did it because we followed the lead of the masses. Our friends jumped off a bridge, and we proved once and for all that yes. If they jump, we'll jump too.
The internet is broken. This amazing, life altering tool has become a weapon, and we pointed the barrel right at our own heads, and we did it because everyone told us that's just how it had to be.
Just because it's poured doesn't mean you have to drink it.
Just because it's lined up doesn't mean you have to snort.
Just because it's loud, obnoxious, and lights furniture on fire in a pool doesn't mean you need to buy it's merch.
Use your viewer vote wisely. If there is a creator who you believe makes this world even remotely better, share their content, engage with them, and move them ahead in the races.
