Whelp. We settled in the system we settled for. That's Starsector, and while things might not be perfect a lot has changed for colony set up in the 0.95a update so where we are at is certainly acceptable. It's just that with the 175% hazard rating we are going to be bleeding money pretty hard early. Fortunately, there's some notorious pirates parked in the nearby systems and I should be able to collect on their bounties. From there? Well, think of this as an Example and Explanation of what's new in Colony Management for the new update. The short of it? In Starsector 0.95a, colonies are no longer a free "I Win" button. You've got to work for what you get. I haven't made it easy for myself, but I'll manage.
Starsector is a game where you get together a squad of spaceships and try to carve your own place out in the stars. Will you turn a profit from trade? Or how about shoot down some pirates to defend a fringe colony? Bounty hunting sound good, or how about becoming a pirate yourself and turning the tables? The galaxy is open to you, just be wary of any AI you might bump into along the way. Although this game is still in Alpha and in deep development, this is one of the greatest games I have ever played and I am very excited it won the viewer's choice selection. The mechanics are deep. The lore is interesting. And once you get your feet wet there are all sorts of mods out there to play with.
And while the mods have not stabilized just yet the devs have been hard at work pushing hotfixes into the 0.95a client. Other than those dev updates, this is a vanilla run.
