With competition rife and algorithms undergoing seemingly constant upgrades, it can be overwhelming to determine how to allocate ad budget across Facebook, LinkedIn, Google, and YouTube. So, where do you start?

A bit about cost factors...

The cost of ads depends on your target audience, bid, ad budget, and campaign objective.
For example, if you are a local business with a smaller target audience, say a restaurant or small shop owner, Google Ads might be a great fit for you to outrank your competitors, particularly given its flexibility in letting you control in real-time how much—and when—you spend your ad money.

The same could be said about YouTube ads, which are easy to track and offer different ad formats for all levels of budgets and requirements.

On the flipside, if you are a global brand with a larger target audience, competition is high on Google Ads, so be prepared for a higher cost commitment to outbid your competitors. Instead, while CPC is highest on LinkedIn for most of the world, its more mature and therefore higher seniority userbase of decisionmakers can translate to higher-quality leads and better ROI.

Facebook ads are some of the cheapest but success here hinges on leveraging its unique targeting options to define your audience.

And no matter which platform you choose, effective audience targeting, budget allocation, and campaign management is critical to reach the right customers.
