Cosmonautics Museum, Tomashovka, tour
The People's Museum of Cosmonautics in the agro-town of Tomashovka near Brest is the first and, to date, only cosmonautics museum in the Republic of Belarus. It was founded on November 4, 1978, and has since hosted over 800,000 tourists. The museum's layout depicts the stages of exploration of the universe and space exploration, and recounts the life and exploits of the first Belarusian cosmonaut, Pyotr Ilyich Klimuk.
The exhibition is dedicated to Pyotr Klimuk, a legendary Soviet cosmonaut from the Brest region. The exhibition halls feature the cosmonaut's personal belongings, a model of the first artificial satellite, and an authentic shock-absorbing seat and diving suit worn by Pyotr Klimuk, who once flew into space.
Pyotr Klimuk's life story seems to come alive when you look at his school desk, photographs of his parents, and family archives. Klimuk's personal recollections, autographs of famous cosmonauts, and excellent musical and visual accompaniment will leave you with unforgettable memories of your visit to the museum.
The museum was reconstructed in 2004, and to this day, it remains the only museum of its kind in Belarus. Over 200 exhibits will tell you about the history of cosmonautics and the early years of space exploration.
