Hello guys! In this video, I show you how to play Half-Life: Alyx Without VR Headset using Mouse & Keyboard! Please watch the video, and then decide which method suits you.
You have two ways to play the game:
1) Using FakeVr Mode
2) Using Beta Content files to play using Gordon Freeman Weapons
Pros of Using FakeVr Mode:
1) Can use hands
2) Can grab things using hands
3) Can open doors and press buttons using hands
4) Default weapons work
5) No need to reload weapons
Cons of Using FakeVr Mode:
1) Can't use gravity gloves
2) Can't perform certain tasks, or at least not perform them with ease, an example of such a case would be the headset one, where you have to put on the headset given by Russell, it is possible to do it, but it's very hard to do.
3) Certain tasks have to be skipped using noclip/mouse4
4) Can't move using the keyboard
Pros of Using Beta Content Files:
1) Can move using the keyboard
2) Can use the gravity gun
Cons of Using Beta Content Files:
1) most tasks require you to use noclip to progress further
2) No hands, so can't open doors, press buttons, etc.
2) Can grab only props using E button
3) Weapons are not the default HL:A weapons, which can cause immersion to break

FakeVR Mode
If you're going to be using FakeVR Mode, ensure you enter the commands in the console in the following order (Enter them after loading game map!):
1) vr_enable_fake_vr_test 1
2) vr_enable_fake_vr 1
3) reload
4) vr_enable_fake_vr_test 1
5) vr_enable_fake_vr 1
6) Wait till push to move popup appears
7) Press TAB and right-click anywhere to teleport/move
8) Then use your mouse to adjust the height to your liking!
Beta Content Mode
If you're going to use Beta Content Files, then do the following steps:
1) Create a shortcut to HLVR on desktop
2) Right-click the shortcut, open properties, and in the "Target" field, after the quotation marks end, add following commands:
-nocrashdialog -retail -allowdebug -vconport 29000 -vcon -dev
3) You can toggle the button to answer the call using the middle mouse button!
Tips For Both Modes
You can also enable weapons or give ammo to yourself by using the following command:
1) sv_cheats 1
2) impulse 101
If the console doesn't open up for you, ensure your keyboard is set to English (US).
