Nonbinary describes any gender identity that falls outside the gender binary model (i.e. something other than man or woman). Some examples are agender, bigender, genderfluid, androgyne, among others. It's important to understand that every nonbinary person may have a different definition of what that means to them. While often used interchangeably with genderqueer, nonbinary is considered a more politically neutral term than genderqueer. As for the colors of the flag: yellow is for gender outside a binary; white, a mix of all colors, is for those with many or all genders; purple is for those who feel both binary male and female or fluid between them; and black is for the agender community, without sexuality or color.
