The GX85 Reminded Me How Fun Photography Is
Lately, photography was starting to feel like a chore. After 3 years of shooting around Las Vegas, packing a massive backpack full of heavy, expensive gear—like my Sony A7V full-frame setup—began to choke out my creative inspiration. I originally wanted to pick up a premium compact like the Fujifilm X100VI, but with retail shortages and used prices skyrocketing, it just didn't make sense.
Then, I bought the Panasonic Lumix GX85 on a recommendation from a local camera shop employee.
For around $500 on the used market, this 10-year-old Micro Four Thirds camera completely changed how I look at my daily workflow. In this video, we pack light and head up to Mt. Charleston to see why this tiny, flawed, everyday carry (EDC) camera completely brought back my creative spark—and how its native features, like exposure bracketing, help it bypass the technical limitations of an older sensor.
