This is a very easy ( or the easiest ? you decide ) and effortless way of installing Opensimulator ( as local standalone) on a Linux Operating System.
No Linux Experience Required. No alien command line typing.
Just follow these simple steps and you will be surprised how simple it is.
For your own opensim experience or content creation, you no longer need to stick to Windows XP which can be a security risk right now. I used Xubuntu 14.04 for this demonstration. I am pleasantly surprised with the performance of Opensim and Firestorm on Linux.
Steps to follow:

1. update your linux system
2. install mono
3. download opensim
4. extract the download
5. run and configure opensim
6. download viewer or client
7. connect to your local sim

Everything is slowly and clearly explained step by step keeping in mind the situation of a first time Linux user.
Thanks for watching.
