DobasDrums is a YouTube channel that presents the best and most Attractive Drumming Instrumental Music. I'm Nathaniel Dobas. I live outside New York City. I'm an American drummer. I've been playing for 30 years and I've turned my passion for drums into a profession. I have toured the east coast with Mark Daniel. I have also played with "Funkee Boy" and Smooth Jazz artist "Leila". I have played drums all over the country and have opened for such national acts as Dick Dale, The Tubes, John Cafferty, Cowboy Mouth and Eddie Money. I have a few reels that showcase my drumming. This is a clever little combination from Gary Chaffee’s Time Functioning book. Gary taught me a specific routine to develop some flexibility within these patterns.
First, start with the basic pattern between the snare and bass drum. Then, play the pattern between the HH, snare and bd...no accents.
Next, you will want to find 1 or 2 accents. Finally, add some modifiers...those modifiers create variety in the groove. They can be 32nd notes on the HH, moving a note on the tom, a HH splash, or even replacing a bass drum step with a HH step. Ideally, you should have 2-3 versions of any linear groove.
it is suggested that you play what you create to a song. Tommy Igoes' “Grooves Essentials” (Vol 1 and 2) are a great resource for linear grooves. Another resource for drum less play along is Jim Rileys’ book, “Survival Guide for the Modern Drummer”.
Further, you can create your own loops in Garage band. The possibilities are really endless. You can go as deep as you want with these grooves and even use them as combos for fills.
