MILITARY CHAPLAINS. FAITH AT WAR
They were called by their numbers instead of their names, kept in a punishment cell, forcibly drawn blood, starved and attacked by dogs! The three military chaplains endured more than 2 months of torture in February 2022 when they went on the search vessel "Sapphire" to Snake Island to pick up the border guards who were considered dead. After being released from the captivity, Vasyl, Leonid and Oleksandr continued their mission, providing spiritual support to the military at the front and in the rear and creating a cultural bridge between different faiths, as hundreds of Christian, Jewish, Islamic and Protestant chaplains work together with the military and their families. "The hardest part of a chaplain's work is bringing the body of a fallen soldier to his family, and burying soldiers with whom he was together on the front line yesterday," says Chaplain Vasyl.
In the documentary film "Military Chaplains. Faith at War" the three chaplains shared with Suspilne Ukraine their vision of the mission and importance of chaplaincy for the army.
