BTMOB RAT is an advanced Android malware, evolved from earlier spyware like SpySolr. It is designed for full remote control ("hacking") of infected mobile devices, primarily targeting Android phones. Attackers use it for surveillance, data theft, financial fraud, and credential stealing.
It spreads mainly through phishing sites that impersonate legitimate apps or services (e.g., streaming platforms like iNat TV, fake crypto mining tools, updates for GB WhatsApp, Chrome, Roku, banking apps, etc.). Victims are tricked into downloading and installing malicious APK files (droppers), which then deliver the full RAT payload.
Once installed, it abuses Android's Accessibility Service (a legitimate feature for accessibility tools) to:
Unlock the device even from the lock screen
Capture keystrokes (keylogging)
Overlay fake screens to steal PINs, passwords, or login details (especially for banking apps, Alipay, crypto wallets, etc.)
Perform on-device actions like making fraudulent transactions without the user noticing
Grant full remote control — attackers can view the screen, control the device, take screenshots, record audio/video, access files, SMS, contacts, location, camera, microphone, etc.
Steal credentials, exfiltrate data to command-and-control (C&C) servers
Monitor and hijack banking / payment apps (e.g., targeting Alipay PINs in later versions like v3.x)
It has multiple versions (v2.5 → v3.2+ reported), with ongoing updates adding features like better stealth, persistence (hard to uninstall), and specific targeting of financial apps in regions like China, Brazil, and globally.
