On March 17 of this year Nintendo made two major announcements, the first being a partnership with a company called DeNA and to make sure that everyone knows that Nintendo is not giving up on the console business, Nintendo was forced to announce the Nintendo NX. Many people jumped with this thinking that Nintendo is going to be dropping the Wii U in 2016, but as the Wii U was launched in November of 2012 this would make the console only four years old, and would be too early of a release I am personally expecting a 2017 release at the earliest as that would coincide with the average life cycle of Nintendo products, that being five to six years.
There has been all kinds of speculation as to what the Nintendo NX is and what its announcement means. Now what I will be talking about here will be based purely on speculation, expectation, and just plainly being a dumb hopeful but if I am right Nintendo may not only be able to take a new market, but possibly bring that new market into the home of the big N.
Now before going fully into what I think will be the NX, I feel that I need to talk about another project that we know very little about and that is project fusion. Where it was believed to be a 3DS and DS port, but I want to look at something else that is part of this. What was stated was that the home console and hand held divisions would be working together, in this speculation I surmise that the release of the next Nintendo console will bring an end to their handheld market, at least how we know it is. This is something that isn’t exactly new as the Wii U gamepad has the off screen mode where you can play several games on the controller itself, and we have also seen this with the PS4 and the PSVita.
Now why did I bring up the Fusion while talking about the NX? I think these two projects are one in the same, to be more accurate my thoughts are that they are the same project just renamed to throw people off. Now I have made a video on my first channel a long while back where I talked about ways to improve the Wii U game pad, as to not have to find that video I will quickly state everything that I wanted in that video. Better range with the off screen mode, better battery where I was wanting 8 hours minimum, a hard drive, a GPU, and in reality making it so the game pad doesn’t have to be near the console in order to play at least the classic games. I still stand behind wanting these things in the game pad, but after seeing one single comment I realized that I was thinking way too small and that is a very rare thing for me usually I go way overboard with my ideas.
Now it is time for the meat and potatoes of what I think the NX is, first off my original thought was with hearing the name Nintendo NX was Nintendo Next. With this new partnership with DeNA where Nintendo owns roughly 10% of DeNA, and DeNA owns roughly 10% of Nintendo this brings in some several ideas. NX in my mind will still be the death throes of the 3DS or the conventional hand held market but in ways that honestly I wasn’t thinking about. NX will be in many ways will be like the Wii U, being that the game pad will be a part of the console and will be in the box, but now my thoughts are that Nintendo wants to fully capitalize on the mobile market.
