MikroTik NAT Log Server Complete Panel Walkthrough
A MikroTik NAT log server walkthrough. This is the panel side of the job: a syslog server sitting behind the router, taking in NAT logs and turning them into a record you can search, back up and hand over.
Most MikroTik log server material stops at the router, showing how to point logging at some address and leaving it there. This video picks up from that point and shows what the log server itself actually does with what arrives.
What is covered:
Signing in to the panel and what the dashboard shows once logs are flowing in.
Viewing the log record, and reading what a NAT entry is telling you. Which subscriber, which private address, which public address they went out on, where they were headed and at what time.
Searching that record with filters. By user, by time of day, by public IP, by destination, by port or protocol, and narrowing a full day down to the handful of entries somebody actually asked about.
Backups, and pulling a single day out of the record when it has to be handed over to somebody.
The audit log, which keeps its own record of every administrative action taken in the panel.
