After a few days of drying, workers gather the leaves of the Saribus palm. Each leaf is trimmed around the edges to create the basic shape.
The trimmed leaves are then quickly passed over heat — just enough to soften the fibers and make them easier to work with. Once pliable, they’re stacked and placed on a metal mold. A few mallet hits cut them cleanly into uniform shapes.
Workers then separate the leaves again and prepare them for edge sewing. Using cloth and thread, they carefully stitch along the perimeter to prevent fraying.
The excess wooden stems are cut and smoothed to ensure a comfortable grip. Each step is done by hand, with close attention to size and consistency. The process ensures that every fan is functional, durable, and precisely shaped — ready for use in markets, homes, or traditional events.
