In this Canva neon text tutorial, I show you how to create a professional flickering neon text effect in Canva using animations, glow effects, and layered typography. This Canva cinematic text effect tutorial is perfect for travel intros, music videos, promotional edits, and cinematic social media content.
I start by importing a video of the Los Angeles skyline at night from the Canva video library. To create a moody cinematic atmosphere, I apply the Myst colour filter to the footage.
Next, I add the words “LOS ANGELES” in bold Anton font and place the text in the centre of the screen. I then apply Canva’s Neon animation along with a neon glow text effect, creating the appearance of glowing electric signage.
To make the effect look more realistic, I duplicate the text and create a second text layer with no animation. I apply a hollow text effect to this top layer, which combines with the animated neon layer underneath.
The final result creates a flickering neon light effect where the text appears to flash onto the screen like real illuminated signage.
