How to format your word document with headings and how to create a table of contents

1. Highlight the section’s title and in the home tab select heading one
2. Once you’ve changed all your headings select where you want to insert your table of contents
3. In your top toolbar select the references tab, select table of contents and then choose one of the built-in table options

Note: if you make any changes to your document such as adding content or changing headings you can update your table of contents by clicking on your table and hitting “update table” and “update entire table”

You can use your table of contents to navigate to sections of your document. In your table hold down control and click on the heading, word will take you to that section of the document.
