The Universe is somewhat similar to human civilization. There are very young planets, barely formed, absorbing the rays of their parent star like a baby absorbs its mother's milk. There are older, mature planets, having orbited their star hundreds of times. And then there are very ancient, long-lived planets. Their age is measured in billions of years.
In the constellation Scorpius, 12,400 light-years from Earth, lies one of the oldest exoplanets currently known to man.
PSR 1620-26 b, or the planet Methuselah...
The exoplanet Methuselah formed in the globular cluster M4 about 12 billion years ago. Imagine this planet forming at a time when Earth, and indeed the Solar System, didn't even exist...
Methuselah's mass is 2.5 times that of Jupiter. It resides in an unusual binary system, both components of which are burned-out stars that long ago completed their active evolutionary phase: a millisecond pulsar and a white dwarf. It orbits these stars at a distance of 23 AU, slightly greater than the distance from Uranus to the Sun, completing one orbit every approximately 100 years.
Methuselah has a very turbulent and unusual history.

Object J0815+4729 was formed approximately 13.5 billion years ago, according to scientists.
The discovered star is located 7,500 light-years from the Milky Way's halo, a diffuse region of stardust, and is classified as a dwarf star.
