There are cameras, there is security… there is no roof rack…
Something happened that you'd usually find waiting anywhere but in a secure parking lot: I approached the car—the roof was empty. The trunk seemed to have vanished. I went to security and asked to check the recording. Without pause, they answered, "Look."
The screen was surreal: a man removing the trunk, then grabbing a tool from a booth, acting as confident as if he did this every day. I tried to figure out who it was and why no one had stopped me. In response, I heard excuses along the lines of "It wasn't me, it was the shift," plus the signature: "The shift worker... is weird."
It got worse: we went into the back room, and my trunk was there. And instead of a clear explanation, I got the phrase, "Here, we'll sort this out."
