Google Chrome dark mode originally debuted on macOS back in March when version 73 of the client released.
The function not only presents a new viewing mode, but it also makes browsing easier on user eyes, too.
While the feature was initially exclusive to Apple's computer hardware, support for Chrome dark mode on Windows 10 arrived with version 74 of the software that started rolling out last week.
Chrome's new feature is not enabled within the client itself, instead it will turn itself on if fans using either Windows 10 or macOS enable the system-wide dark modes that exist on both the Microsoft and Apple operating systems respectively.
To enable Google Chrome dark mode for Android, fans should follow these steps:
• Type chrome://flags into the programme's URL bar
• In the box that reads "search flags" type in "Android Chrome UI dark mode"
• Change this flag from "default" to "enabled"
• Restart Chrome using the prompt that will appear after the step above has been completed
• Once Chrome has re-launched, go to the programme's settings menu that can be accessed be pressing the icon of three dots stacked vertically at the top right-hand side of the software
• In the settings menu, under "basics" there should be a button that says "dark mode" - turn this on
• If this button does not appear, you should force stop Chrome and re-launch it - this can be done by heading into your phone's settings menu and finding Chrome under the "apps" section
After these steps have been completed, Chrome dark mode should be running on your Android device.
If users want to ensure more web content adheres to the view, they can activate a separate flag within Chrome.
• Type chrome://flags into the programme's URL bar again and search for "Android web contents dark mode"
• Make sure this is set to "enabled" and restart Chrome
This extra flag will mean more websites, such as the Google search engine, will be presented in a black tone rather than a white one.
It is worth noting Android fans will need to have made sure they are running Chrome version 74 for this process to work.
