First of all, to get to Avalon one of the easiest ways is to catch the Catalina Express. You can catch it from San Pedro, close to Long beach, and it will take you to the island in about 1hr. and 15min.
The trip is quite entertaining and you can usually see dolphins and all sorts of wildlife on your way to the island. Worth mentioning that at the exit of the Harbor it is moored the USS Iowa, an impressive battleship that served in the Atlantic Ocean on WW2.
As you can see on these drone shots, Avalon is located within a natural port in the Island of Santa Catalina, some of its most iconic sights are the famous round casino and its beautiful beaches.
One cool thing you can do to explore the surroundings of Avalon is to rent a golf kart. We got a big one and thankfully we could carry around our sports equipment with it, because it was heavy. To complete a whole tour around the village takes around 2 hrs, and that’s taking it easy and stopping for pictures and videos like we did.
Another thing you can not miss is to walk around the main street of Avalon, Crescent avenue. Although it is quite busy, its’ two adjacent beaches are just beautiful, and its also a perfect spot if you want to have a bite or get a refreshing drink. By the way, we were travelling with two little dogs and it was quite difficult for us to find a restaurant that would accept pets, so please bear this in mind if you are planning to visit Avalon with your furry companions.
Finally, renting a kayak or a paddle board is a great way to explore the rest of the port and even adventure to other nearby beaches. In our case, we brought our paddle and, as you can see, we had a blast with it.
