How to Write A Resume| Tips to Write A Professional Resume (Freshers & Experienced) – Step-By-Step Tutorial
What do you mean by Resume Writing?
Resume Writing involves the brief of a person’s educational qualification, previous work experience, both of which are attached to a job application. Before designing your resume, make sure that you are putting in all the professional details along with the key points that you’re willing to showcase because it will enhance your chances of casting an impression.
Also, make sure that you do not deliberately put in things to showcase yourself. Remember, your resume is an extension of your personality and so, it should have all the right things.
Majorly, there are three types of Resume designing patterns:
1. Chronological Resume
This one is the most common format of resume designing and involves your recent employment/education qualifications. This type of resume is for people who took breaks in their professional career but continued to work in the same sector.
2. Functional Resume
This resume format is for those who have comparatively less work experience and are planning to make a career change. The functional resume design does not focus on the job title and previous employment but on knowledge, skills, and ability to work and is specially formulated for people who have worked in multiple job profiles.
3. Combination Resume
As the term goes, this resume style is the combination of the first two resume patters – the chronological resume and the functional resume. Here, the applicant lists all the key details like the previous employment experience, knowledge, and other additional skills that they might have had. This is useful for people who have pursued any professional course or have earned a degree in a specific subject.
Here are some do’s and don’ts of Resume Writing
• Keep it short and crisp (around 1-2 pages).
• Maintain a simple & standard design.
• Proof-read and cover key details.
Do’s
Do not forget to customize your resume as per the industry you’re applying to. The initial page of your resume should be attractive and catch the attention of the interviewer. Maintain the standard space between paragraph change and use bullets or pointers to make it look clean. Use formal, readable fonts, and also keywords. Prefer font size 10-12-14. Also, be cautious while mentioning your holiday period. Cut it out if it is not relevant to your profile.
Don’ts
Do not exceed 2 pages and avoid exceeding 3 to 5 points per section. Your copy should be free of grammatical errors, acronyms, and jargon. Exclude your photograph only if needed. Do not lie about your qualifications and achievements. Do not copy the content of the focus areas for your resume – like the objective, summary, etc. Craft your own descriptions.
