Learn how to create cool glowing edges on your products in just 40 seconds using shader nodes in Blender.

The Layer Weight node in Blender is a shading node used to create effects based on the angle between the surface normal and the camera view. It generates two outputs — Facing and Fresnel — which can be connected to shaders or other nodes to create effects like rim lighting, reflective edges, or subtle shading gradients.

Facing: Outputs a value based on the angle between the surface normal and the camera. Surfaces directly facing the camera will output a higher value, while those at a grazing angle will output lower values. This is useful for creating soft transitions or edge effects.

Fresnel: Outputs a value simulating the Fresnel effect, where surfaces become more reflective at glancing angles. The intensity of the effect can be controlled, and it’s commonly used for reflections and glass shaders.

The Layer Weight node is often used in combination with other nodes like Color Ramps or Mix Shaders to create custom reflective or glowing effects.
