• Sidewinder - Best Upgrade Marlin 2.0.9.2
Foreword to my motivation - User Andreas commented on August 22, 2021:
"Sunday morning and I just couldn't wait until tomorrow (until the Raspberry Pi 4 arrives). I simply wanted to enjoy and test the new firmware. ;o) (See the other comment thread – the method without opening the cover didn't work for me.) So I did it. I followed your instructions and got inside the Sidewinder. It really took less than 10 minutes. I removed 6 screws (the seal remained intact, it's just glued on), disconnected the fan cable, and the TFT cable came off easily without removing any adhesive. (I disconnected the connector completely without loosening or cutting the adhesive.) It was really easy without any tools. I flashed the firmware via Cura, then updated the TFT firmware and set the PID and bed levels as you described." I've never enjoyed leveling my print bed so much. It's so much fun when you know how awesome the first prints will be afterward. And yes, simply brilliant. I'm currently printing a bed leveling test. And it looks amazing. Just perfect. And I'm still using the original glass plate. (Yes, I adjusted the Z-offset in Cura as you suggested.) The PID constant is also fantastic with the new firmware. I watched it for 10 minutes. And it remained constant for the entire 10 minutes. Not a single degree of deviation. Now I'm just faced with the question: should I look at the software/menu or print? ;o) Okay, I'll print and check out the new menu at the same time. Just looking, not touching. ;o) No, it's really fun. Thank you for your brilliant videos. I'm not a beginner and have been printing for about 3 years, so I know many YouTubers in this field. But you present it in a way that's easy to understand and engaging. And you also think ahead. What could my viewers do wrong/overlook, and you point it out immediately. That's why I transferred €10 each to you and "digant" in "coffee shares" for your brilliant work. Thank you so much for everything, and please keep it up! With that in mind, have a nice Sunday everyone.
Conclusion:
Should the elegant "BBZ" (bottom remains closed) method not work for you due to a connection error, there's always the classic method that user Andreas used above. This involves briefly opening the bottom panel using six screws and disconnecting the TFT cable from the mainboard until the new Marlin firmware is installed. A video tutorial is linked below under point 6, "Old Method."
