There are two main ways to initiate a new message on Facebook Messenger:
1. Starting a one-on-one chat:
Open the Facebook Messenger app or go to Messenger.com.
Look for the "New Message" icon. On the mobile app, it's usually a pencil and paper symbol in the top right corner. On desktop, it might be a plus sign (+) in a chat bubble icon on the left side.
Click the "New Message" icon. This will open a new chat window.
In the "To" field, type the name of the person you want to chat with. Messenger will suggest contacts as you type.
Once you've selected the recipient, you can start typing your message in the chat box below.
When you're finished composing your message, hit the "Send" button (it usually looks like an arrow) to send it.
2. Starting a group chat:
Follow steps 1 and 2 from the one-on-one chat instructions above.
Instead of selecting a single recipient, tap the "+" icon next to the "To" field (mobile app) or click "Create group" (desktop).
Here, you can search for and select multiple contacts to add to the group chat.
Once you've added everyone you want, give your group a name (optional) and tap "Create" (mobile app) or "Next" (desktop) to start the group chat.
Additional Notes:
You can also start a new message by replying to an existing message thread. Just tap or click on the name of the person or group you want to chat with again.
When creating a group chat, you can add or remove people later on by accessing the group chat settings.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions about Facebook Messenger.
