Although there are rumors-like Kalashnikov himself considered the transition to 5.45 not advisable ! And according to the reviews of the military themselves, many preferred the good old AKM or even earlier versions of the AK to the 74 ! Although the AK-74 has much more advantages over the AKM, for example-less cartridge weight-hence more ammunition, less recoil, better flooring ! But at the same time, the penetration capacity of 7.62 mm is better than that of 5.45 ! The AK-74 made its debut in the war in Afghanistan in 1979 and continues to be used to this day in various local conflicts ! However, in Russia itself, as of 2021, this machine is already obsolete and is being replaced with a more promising AK-12 !
