There were rumors that Amazon, the world’s largest online retailer and a prominent cloud services provider has joined Ripple for the better use and getting advantage of the payment solutions provided b Ripple. But the rumors have just been confirmed as a recent news broke out about Amazon and Visa.
According to the sources, Amazon plans to stop accepting payments made via Visa credit cards issued in the U.K. starting next year. Some consumers have been informed that from Jan. 19, the e-commerce giant will no longer accept Visa credit cards issued in the United Kingdom. The reason behind this is the high fees Visa charges for processing credit card transactions.
Visa raised the interchange fees it charges businesses for processing digital transactions between the United Kingdom and the European Union earlier this year. The reason is that after Brexit, the UK is no longer subject to an EU interchange fee cap, allowing card networks to hike their costs. Not only Visa, others including Mastercard has also increased its U.K.-EU interchange fees.
Don't worry if you are a Visa user from the UK. You can still use your Visa debit and credit cards at Amazon U.K. today and throughout the holiday season. However, according to an Amazon spokesperson, the cost of accepting card payments continues to be an obstacle for businesses striving to provide the best prices for customers. These costs should be going down over time with technological advancements, but instead they continue to stay high or even rise.
