Gigafactory Texas on 22 September 2023! This is where Model Y’s and Cyber Truck production happens!

Production still paused, but more employees at work (parking lot full for a Friday) and insider info states almost all employees will be back at work on Monday, getting lines set up to resume production by the end of the week.

A recent news article about Giga Texas states the current number of employees is about 20,000 but by the time Cybertruck is fully ramped up, this number will swell to around 60,000! Because of this, a new multi-level garage is needed, and in fact, as we have discussed many times over the course of this year, is under construction right now!

One of the biggest developments today is the movement of all four large pneumatic blenders into the second floor of the south end of the battery cathode plant. A specialized crane lifting bar with counterweights was used to move and position these blenders inside through the opening and into place.

Nearby, at the crash test facility we see the paving work on the south and west sides of the facility has been completed and two Cybertrucks on the north end, one on a Rotisserie and the other just inside the covered structure. There is also one more Cybertruck on the east side, and all three still have car covers on them, waiting for their fates.

A few other highlights from today’s flight include:

The west side of Tesla Road, where the expansion work is underway has been paved and the old paving is in the process of being broken up. FM 973, where the intersection with Tesla Road is located is also getting widened along its full length, which will double the number of lanes for traffic. This is essential to support the amount of truck deliveries and car transports Giga Texas will generate on a daily basis.

The east multi-level parking garage construction site has had most of the grade work completed, and on the north end, more of what appears to be an underground manifold system for storm water management is being constructed. This is likely needed as expansion work will eventually incorporate much of the east areas currently occupied by the east WOW Yard, material staging and contractor trailers.

The outbound lot and the testing and calibration lots were empty again today, save for one lonely Cybertruck under car cover. This was positioned near a transport truck, so it is possible it will be departing Giga Texas soon.

The new End-of-Line structure continues steel erection and assembly and now, wall panel decking is being installed on the northeast and west sides. A new section of ground slab was being poured this morning at the time of my drone flight, and we see the Horizontal Drilling machine in action, actively boring a tunnel under the highway and to the main factory. A long section of HDPE pipe has also been fuse welded and is waiting for the big pull though the underground bore.

In the video introduction, I make a correction from my 20 September 2023 video where I mistakenly described a new delivery as a bridge crane. It is in fact a MISA Pallet Stacker crane and it is an important part of the vertical utilization of the available space and the additional production capacity being installed into Giga Texas. I provide a short clip from MISA describing this system and how it operates.
