PayPal Stock is Falling: Buy or Sell?
PayPal stock $PYPL is trading around 52-week lows as this #payments firm reels from the impact of losing a good chunk of business from eBay. On one hand, they're a large firm that's a global market leader in payments with lots of irons in the fire. On the other hand, they're dabbling in areas we don't believe are compelling: remittances, #crytpo, and buy-now-pay-later (BNPL). PayPal is growing into a powerful tech company, and an argument could be made that at its current price, PayPal stock is trading at a relative bargain. But the growth story is hard to read through the fog of the post-pandemic economy and opaque reporting structure. Everyone is fleeing crypto, so probably fewer transaction fees to collect. Consumers are likely to pull back on spending, so again fewer transaction and interest rate fees to collect. The war over digital wallets is just beginning, and it’s way too early to declare PayPal the winner. Here's why we're not buyers of $PYPL stock at any price.
